Robot Unicorn Attack: The Popular Game Celebrates the Holidays

In early 2010, the Adult Swim Games web site brought us Robot Unicorn Attack, the highly addictive, yet simple, electronic game created by Spiritonin Media Games that has been played over 33 million times by unicorn enthusiasts on the Adult Swim Games web site, facebook, and through an iPhone app.

If you are unfamiliar with Robot Unicorn Attack, the gameplay is simple: the player controls a beautiful robotic unicorn running and jumping through a landscape that is populated by rainbows, fairies, and silver stars.  To obtain a high score, the player must capture as many fairies and dash through as many silver stars as possible.  The entire game is set to the enchanting sounds of Erasure's synthpop hit, Always.  A Heavy Metal spinoff version, adapted by Smashing Ideas, Inc., and released in October by Adult Swim Games, replaced the fairies and stars with imps and pentagrams, and has a distinctively heavy metal soundtrack.

These screencaps for the original and heavy metal versions of Robot Unicorn Attack, below, show the simplicity of the game and the differences between the two versions:

By now, dear reader, I am sure you are simply dying to test your Robot Unicorn Attack skills!
But, WAIT, there's more!

The kind folks at Adult Swim have released another Robot Unicorn Attack spinoff just in time for the holidays, and this time it is CHRISTMAS-THEMED!  Robot Unicorn Attack Christmas Edition is similar to the previous two versions of the game, except that the player navigates the unicorn through a snow-covered winter wonderland of sparkling lights and peppermint candies to collect gift-wrapped presents and dash through snowflakes. For now, this version is available only through the iPhone app store, where you can get it for just 99 cents!  You can't get much for 99 cents these days, and it's a great bargain for a game that combines the magic of both unicorns and snowflakes!

It is exciting to see the expansion of the Robot Unicorn Attack empire. The Unicorn Daily News will be following this unicorn-themed game franchise closely, so come back often for updates!
